What Plant AM I? for June 17th, 2017

I am a member of the family Fagaceae, and a species native to China, Taiwan, and Korea.

I am a deciduous tree growing to 20 m tall with a broad crown. My leaves are alternate, simple, with a toothed margin. My flowers are produced as catkins with the female flowers at the base of the catkin and males on the rest. My fruit is a densely spiny cupule that containing two or three glossy brown nuts that are edible.

If you plant me, it may take 3 to 6 years for establishment me before
any nuts that may be harvested and another 10 years before yields
are significant

My scientific name is derived from my softly downy shoots and young leaves.

I am a naturally an understory tree, and have been cultivated in East Asia.

I am resistant to the blight that has killed millions of a species of tree with my same last name sake.
