Mark, I have a Cherokee Chief dogwood in a 3 gallon pot to plant.  Is this an understory tree that needs some protection (like an east exposure) or is full sun ok? I have a lot of wind sometimes from the west as my back yard is open. Any planting suggestions are appreciated.

Is it ok to plant it at this time of year?
Anything special I should know about this tree?
