Elms tend to live to 25 years or a 12-20"dbh and then they decline to Dutch Elm and Phloem Necorsis. My suggest would be to remove whe dead and not over react with their removal, and re plant with other species other than Ash. There is more to life…

When is the best time to prune peegee hydrangea. I have some that are long with the dead flowers and long branches. I am assuming they should be pruned in the spring.

I have a Dawn Redwood I planted 3 years ago. It is about 9 ft tall but the problem is it is growing like a weeping one and it wants to flop over. Could it be the central leader died out and it is growing out with a side branch. It seems healthy in any other way. I have it tied back all the time to keep it straight.

dutch elm disease

dying elms

I had at least 3 slippery elms die this summer and have noticed other ones are dead. The one elm is 12" and the others are about 6-8" in dia. The leaves just die all at once and then there is small shoots sprouting out up and down the trunk. My neighbor has also lost some of his. I assumed it is dutch elm disease.
Happy 49th birthday Mark the big 50 is coming up.

bittersweet

I planted bittersweet on a fence 2 years ago and it hasn't grew very much. It did get a few berries this fall but not like it should. It is in part shade to shade at the edge of a woods. It is very well drained to point of being very dry. It is under walnut trees but I didn't think that hurt them. I have it going both ways along fence it did have a nice yellow leaf color this fall. The plant only went about 3 feet each way and I haven't done any pruning on it.
