Thanks Mark! I'm cleaning the seeds now. Would you like some?

Which tree form dogwood has white berries this time of year? I hurriedly collected seeds a few days ago thinking this was from a gray dogwood but went back yesterday and spent more time. I noticed this was a small tree and gray dogwood is a shrub. T…

I noticed this morning that two of my sugar maple seedlings were dead and when I pulled them out of the ground the stems broke off at the soil line and are black and hollow. There are small black beads inside the cavities which I am taking for some…

Thank you Mark. Whatever these things are, one has hatched. It is black
and about an eighth inch long with a two-part body like a beetle. It has
two antennae that have orange to red, round ends. I'm new here. Do I have
to use a cell phone to post a picture?

Stem rot

I noticed this morning that two of my sugar maple seedlings were
dead and when I pulled them out of the ground the stems broke
off at the soil line and are black and hollow. There are small black
beads inside the cavities which I am taking for some kind of
insect eggs. I've never seen anything like this before and don't
know what it is.
